For Metal & Jewelry Design we've been tasked with designing and crafting an entry piece for a runway exhibition at the Burchfield Penney Art Center this fall.
I've decided to go with a necklace whose focus is mass, using hollow-form linked copper elements thusly:
It'll have a built-up layer of similar elements creating a mass mid-chest and flow/taper off to one side. Time, material, and energy permitting, a matching themed bracelet and ear adornments will accompany the model down the runway. ...whoever that ends up being. :s Updates to follow, of course...

Glen, I think this is an awesome idea. Your use of mass (if well-implimented) will nail the concept of motion.
ReplyDeleteI recommend looking into pendulums. Even look at plumb bobs (which I'm sure you've done many times.) The interesting part about plumb bobs:
If you hang them and put a box of sand underneath, they make beautiful circular patterns. That may help you with patterns or texture in the future.
Just a thought, of course.
